“Many social enterprises face the challenging task of determining what are their true costs and what price they should charge for their product or service. Sometimes the current competitive market price is the main determinant and sometimes it is the cost of delivering the product or service, and the desired profit margin, that are key. Regardless of how an organization approaches the pricing decision, is important for them to know the true labour, material and overhead costs associated with delivering their product or service. In addition, knowing how to reduce these costs can often be the difference between success and failure for the social enterprise.
In his presentation, Jon will build on enp’s last 2 marketing and finance event topics, and demonstrate how JDQ has assisted 4 Social Enterprises in determining their costs and prices using an Activity Based Costing model. He will also introduce business process improvement (BPI) tools that can help identify hidden costs associated with delivering your product, and the waste that can be eliminated to reduce your costs. Participants will take away a template of the Activity Based Costing spreadsheet and a good understanding of how they can apply it, and other BPI tools, to their own organization.”
